Big thanks to Mike and Guy for a great day. Fantastic weather and not too many people up there either. Result!

I live minutes from this area, so it is my favourite area of mountainside. Which way did you ascend? Gribbin Ridge?

There is a cave marked on the north face of Gallt y Ogof ridge. Has anyone explored it?

It is hideously difficult to get to .. I have tried but not managed to get at it. I am 90% sure it is nothing more than a large grotto though ....

Is it difficult to get to bcause the entrance is so small, or because it is up a steep incline?
I assume it is man made because there is no limestone in that area, but who would build a cave there?
I can't see any obvious signs of an addit.

Unless I am mistaken, a cave, however small, cannot be man made by definition.

Mine Trial maybe?

Only 1 "d" in adit.

Erm, well, I have never heard of a "man-made" cave but I guess you could argue one

It's not small - it is very large and easy to see from the road as you drive past - it is on a very steep incline and it is also grassy preventing "climbing".

.... have a look when you drive past next ;)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave

And for those who, rightly so, do not put total faith in Wikipedia... The Oxford version...

oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/cave

Both are defined by natural...

And yes, I'm being a pedantic twat tonight...

One of the things I picked up from Elsie Little's presentation is that the Legal term 'cave' applies to any hole in the ground made by natural processes OR made by mankind or any other creature and abandoned.
I also notice several caves marked on OS maps which when examined are entirely man made. I assume that it is for this reason that the term 'cave' is used in the proposed agreement to include any hole in the ground, be it formed by natural processes or by mining operations.
