Waenlas (Bach) drainage adit 12 years 3 months ago #4632

Hi all
I'm trying to plot the North Western ends of the Waenlas (continuation of Pant-du) & Waenlas Bach lead veins & locate the collapsed drainage adit into the River Alyn.

Chris Ebbs states (1) that several hundered meters of workings (Waenlas) are now accesible via a low drainge adit which opens into the River Alyn.

Coflein (2) also mentions the drainage level but for the Waenlas Back vein.

1. www.llanarmon.com/images/uploads/file/big_mines_hires.pdf

2. www.coflein.gov.uk/en/site/414215/detail...LAS+MINE,+LLANARMON/

Any help appreciated

Lister .... is this the adit that is under Belgrave by Llanferres ?

(I think the same one Hoss is referring to)

Hi Ian
It would be very close to Llanferes, I'll overlay Belgrave & see if it matches up before I ask any more questions!
Thanks for the info.

Belgrave is much further south

Excellent map and I now know exactly where you mean.

I have been into the Waenlas vein at the Burley Hill Quarry - there is an entrance (might be two) just by the trees on the edge of the quarry and just by the footpath that goes along the fence. One route dives down to the quarry and becomes collapsed and the other route (into wood) is longer but with no workings to see.

I have not found any entrances south of the quarry though:(

The Pentrehobin vein is, however, open athough it is dammed to neck height and someone is using the water which is being piped. That connects on your map to the Pant Du vein which I didn't know. Do you know the dammed adit ? (it is do'able)

Hi Lister
If you intend to go mooching please let me know as I live in Llanarmon and have an interest in the mining in the area.
I am finding all the info fragmented and very confusing so a walk with a knowledgable person would help!
Cheers
Frank

Thanks for all the info
I managed to get in touch with Cris Ebbs who said that 'the drainage adit emerges at SJ19376091 south of the road bridge & ford on private land', although there is a public footpath in the area. There is also a collapsed adit 50yds further upstream.

Frank, I'm hardly a knowlegable person, I've forgotten more than I've learnt but will give you a nod when I get back over that way.
