Hi Folks.

Change of plan this week. As there has been movement at the GB shaft, we will need to stabilise the shaft a little bit more this week. Murph has posted in the private section his plans.
If you are able to help, please come along.

MEET TIME: 6:30pm (Murph will be there from 4pm so if anyone can make it earlier, please do).

MEET POINT: A541 Hendre. Parking on roadside opposite GB field, on Royal Oak side of Hendre. Please do not block any gateways/driveways and if possible, avoid parking in front of houses.

EQUIPMENT: Standard caving gear. No SRT required.

Regards, Steve.

N.B: The first 2 replies below refer to the planned Rhyd Alyn trip.

Will do no harm to have a look and see what is needed as it has been a while since any work was done on the train. As one supermarket once said, "every little helps". We can plan in a Saturday once we know where we are with it.

I'm good to give Murph a hand at GB after 4:30ish. Might head to Rhyd Alyn afterwards, if I'm not there by 6:40 I'm still at GB.

I will be at the chapel 6.45ish I no longer have a working key so will assume someone else will have one, I will be taking some rather heavy stuff down so some help would be appreciated if anyone has any carrying capacity.

I'll give a hand at RA. See if I can get train started. I should be bringing a newbie. I probably will not get there till just after 7pm so if you need stuff taking down, leave it by a car and I'll pick it up.

Garreg Boeth shaft shored up tonight. Still a bit of work to do with a bit more timbering, but it looks like it is safe for now.

The problem is slumping of the wet clay which is creeping into the area at the bottom of the shaft on the LHS as you climb down the ladder. This leaves voids nearer the surface which could affect surface stability. Timber work has been fitted to limit the movement of material near the base of the shaft, but a bit more needs to be fitted further inbye before the solid rock with the adit. A few paving slabs/concrete blocks on the floor wouldn't go amiss as this will stop material creeping down under the boards and oozing up from below. There is a need to do a bit of back filling for a belt & braces job - but as it stands I don't think the farmer will come to harm in his tractor.

I should note there was a terrific draught at the surface. Initially it was outward, but then it switched to be inward (presumably as the air temperature dropped). Very noticable - we really need to investigate where the air goes :)
