Location
SH 785 223
Directions
You will need an O/S map – the mine is South West of Bala, off the A494 near Rhydymain. You can drive right to the main mine entrance through a couple of gates in the road. The adit is BELOW the road but you can see the water coming out and the cut into the rock as you drive directly over it. There is also a “cutaway” in the rock on the other side which appears to be an adit but isn’t.
Parking is hard and you may need to park a little distance away.
The road is quite steep and the adit is on a bend.

Description
This mine (level or adit) is not marked on the O/S map at all.
There is calcite or quartz spoil littered around with iron and copper intrusions suggesting it is a copper mine/level (it’s close to the Dolgellau gold belt too).
There is an amount of coiled wire fencing at the entrance which isn’t actually blocking the entrance at all.
The water is dammed by only a small heap of soil (or something similar) but is sufficient to hold back the water to such a high level.
