Why is the website still being hacker - I suggest you change all new registrations to moderator/admin approval only. To avoid this as the spam filter is not working.

If someone is really interested they wont mind waiting until their account is approved.

JohnO, its not being hacked. Its being spammed.

Believe me, the spam filter takes out most of it. The odd ones get through but thats all just part of having what has become a quite high profile (in terms of search rankings) forum.

Not a problem for the moderators to keep on top of :-)

You can call it what you like

I am sure the spam filter does take out a lot of stuff, but approval will take out a lot more - I think we expose to much information already and should lock more away to registered uses and then to members. That way we would see would is reading the forum as well as posting.

Have notice our latest member is "GoledCasinoMr" I look forward to seeing his interesting caving posts.

You say very few get thought - my I suggest you look at the registered user list since the 5 Jan 2013 we have had 49 new registrations out of the current 198 (25% new in just 1 month), of those 49 I would say only 5 or 6 are valid certainly only 4 have every posted.

Just look at some of the user names
"buy nolvadex"
"timberlandbootsuia"
"ixbkdwumguqm"
"longchampoutletlzv"
"GoledCasinoMr"

I think we have a problem :(

Why not moderate at the source rather than leaving the door open and then having to quickly shut it and clean up once they are in, I can't see the problem, so a user may just gave to wait 24-48hr to get access.

I hope others will support me on this, as your profile data is open to these hackers once they have registered

I wouldn't join a forum which makes me wait to view a forum/thread (post yeah but not view) as if i was doing research ETC and i may need information within a few hours not after a MOD (who do a great job may i just say) has decided to approve me in a few days.

I used to be a MOD for a LGBT group and you had to wait to be approved but i might get 200 emails a day to approve (username) and so i would sift through them all (taking a few hours) which as i wasn't getting paid did p1ss me off quite alot.

but in all fairness an approval system might be good if you haven't been referred to by an existing (approved) member.

I used to have it set to approval for all new members and got moaned at big time for anything over a hour or twos wait.

I find it easier to manage the odd bit of spam and regularly (about once every month or two) purge the registers user list.
