What software can I use to have a go at editing some video footage I have?

The one I used for my video of Cae Coch last week was just Windows live movie maker, it's not bad considering it's probably already installed on your computer anyway. It's not as powerful as the old version though. I've also used JVC Imagemixer in the past which I got with my dv cam, however it's not 100% compatable with windows 7

Hopefully Ian will post up with some better advice for you... ;)

Adobe Premier Pro here - but unless you want to pay mega bucks or use a dodgy hacked version probably best rule that one out.

I also have Sony Vegas.

If you're using windows then windows movie maker is a good way to get started for no extra cost. If its not already installed on your windows package it can be added really easily....

Adobe is (imo) no doubt the best but I don't use it because I can't understand it

In fairness, most of the "off the shelf" stuff for £20-£40 is great and easy to use. I use "Magix" - it is really just a glorified version of windows Movie maker and does everything you need.

It you want the technical stuff though, you need Tims suggestion of Adobe :)

Ian - I've watched some of your "Walking World" vids on youtube. On the scenes where you appear to be talking to yourself, is that some kind of overlay function on Magix? you used to be able to overlay on the older version on WMM by dragging the 2nd clip over the 1st, but the newer WLMM doesn't support this function.

Cheers,

Rob

Split screen Rob - pretty sure you can do it in Windows Movie maker too. There is a channel on youtube called "themeejahchannel" and he shows you how to get all the effects you see on TV using windows movie maker (he's an actor in real life)

I use Sony Vegas. Very powerful, but simple to use (well, as simple as decent Video Editing software gets).

Proper versions go from £40ish (Anything after v8 is fine for most uses), top end stuff is, well, scarily priced. Dodgy copies floating round too, if that's your thing.

Vegas for me too, used to use adobe but like most abode stuff it is bloatware and they will give you no support.

I have a copy of Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 if you are interested as I am now using the Pro 11 version.

As someone who has had various pictures stolen off the interweb and used by others to make money, i hope anyone using a dodgey/cracked/hacked or what ever else version of photoshop or any other editing software will not be complaining when it happens to them.

are you using your copy of photoshop for purely eductional purposes dan? :-P

Actully i did pay for Sony Vegas but I'd never pay for Premier - i'd manage without it if that were the only option.

I dont have a copy of photoshop, our Jay does though, and there is no condition that it is used for educational reasons, you just have to be a student/in school to get the discount.

and to be honest, if i profited from my pictures, i would happyly pay the full retail price for it
