What's the deal with driving vehicles up to Croesor quarry?

I walked up there today and there were 5 big bales in crates in various places along the road and the gate at the top, although it had fallen down, had been wired shut. I propped it back up as well as I could.

It just seems as if effort has been made to stop vehicles from getting up there.

Perhaps we could get in touch with the landowner to clarify the situation and if he does indeed want to stop vehicles, we could then spread the word that driving up is no longer an option.
oh, what fresh hell is this?

my understanding is basically that there is no public access to drive up - its not a greenlane - you know the score about where 4x4's have the right to drive - (as per GLASS etc). However the land owner is generally ok'ish about it when we have asked him in the past.

So we do not have the 'right' to drive up. We can ask for permission each time and generally get told 'ok'.

We should probably not encourage or create too much traffic because this is likely to turn things to a 'no'.

Ok, i understand. It just seemed that the bales were blocking the track on purpose. I.e, there was space on the side to put them out of the way. He's blocking his own access as much as anyone elses!

it would be a bit of a birch if you drove up to meet a silage bale and had to reverse back

lolol

Iestyn. I don't think he blocks it on purpose - its more a case of just pushing the bales out of the back and they drop where they drop. you can push them out of the way/drive over them if you need to ;-)
