Trip report 12th March 2020 thorntree shaft. 4 years 1 month ago #37928

We arrived at the meeting location I had to pop back home as I forgot my srt kit. Lucky I live 5 mins away.
It was me and paul gittins and Captain Mike.
Once we got to the shaft mike and Paul commenced unearthing the lid from all the debris and mud covering it. We had some trouble opening so it Mike quickly jumped under by the pipe and popped it up. And is now more accessible for the next trip in ten years time lol.
Mike quickly rigged it out and proceeded to abseil down. Which was about 60fert
At this point I would have anticipated I would be very nervous as my fear of heights would normally of had the better of me. But I was not phased at all. So once I’d got on the rope and checked I was all safe I bumbled on down. Rope was not very forgiving and had to force feed the rope through my stop.
Once Paul had come down after Me we landed on the first pitch which was a nice open chamber we clambered the rocks, mean while Paul sent what sounded like a cascade of rocks down and I thought he was going with them and me and mike would be stuck the other side.
Mike was first down second by me and mr g last, this pitch about 50feet.
Once at the bottom it was a shallow adit wet muddy floor which lead to a collapse dig. Little mooch around here and then we headed back out.
Soon as we landed the second pitch up my go pro camera died. So not a lot of climbing back up for future film.

Great little srt trip. Would highly recommend for second srt trip after training with budgy.
