Directions
The best place to park is in the cafe car park near the FR station at Tan-y-Grisiau. Then take the public footpath past the power station until it skirts the railway. There's a crossing at SH67769.44083 which takes you up to the works area of the mine.

Access
On public access land. Some adits ring-fenced, others walled up.

Wellies, SRT for exploring the winzes.

Description
A fascinating mine with several large stoped areas. Adits run up the hillside from the mill area, following a large rib of quartz on the mountainside. The mill was ruined by the CEGB and the bottom adit filled in.
The next adit up SH6734143776 is a shallow one, ending in a winze which probably goes right down to the mill adit level.
Above this on the rib is a larger stoped out adit SH6718043690 with a bridge over a flooded winze. Tracks go further inbye but end after a few yards in a forebreast which has been drilled for shotblasting.
A fine stone revetted tramway goes 200 yards south from this adit to another stoped area SH6721943518 . This was not explored.
Below these workings is another adit at SH6727743548, probably the most interesting. After stoping, a ledge goes above a very deep winze. Then a fall is encountered, along with a pile of rubbish from the roofing shaft above. The area is stoped out right to the ceiling here. A further flooded section is then encountered, along with a pile of stacked deads before the adit ends.
A drumhouse sits at the head of an incline down to the mill at SH6736743615 and slightly below again is an extensive area of tips. Unfortunately, here the adit is walled up...a pity, because this looks from the tips as if it might have been extensive.
