Mine Attributes
Gold

Description
At first glance this might seem to be a trial but it is actually a mine albeit short.

The vein which was chased is identical to one in Gwynfynydd Gold Mine only a short distance away.

Water at the entrance tried desperately to enter wellies but JUST failed.

Nicely decorated with lots of fool’s gold in the spoil outside and a strong smell of sulphur when you crack open the rocks.

There appears to be an upper passage but on inspection from the outside it is the vein breaking to surface and the “shaft” has now collapsed.

Hi Ian,
Great pictures - thinking of checking this one out as its relatively close to me. Is it worth going to?

Looked up the location you gave on some historic maps and the levels are marked as copper workings. Did you find a source saying they were worked for gold? Might be that they produced some gold with the copper ore, given the proximity to the major gold mines of the area. There is another copper level mapped 400 m south of that location, and an Old Copper Mine another 400 m south from there, did you visit those as well? Might take a day and try to check all of it out at once!

It was a Scottish company that were prospecting it ... so far as I am aware, they did not undertake any work there ... ;)
