few yorkshire dales potholes are fenced - and in the case of jingling - it would require over 150m of fencing

and just on west kingsdale - there is rowten and bull pot that have significant open shafts

plus several more where a fall in the ent. series would result in serious injury

then there are hundreds of other grykes , shakeholes , boulders , rabit holes , drain ditches and stream run-offs that :

` an idiot wandering randomly at night ` could incapacitate themselfs by falling into them blind

to be blunt - there should not be people wandering randomly on the fell tops with no light .

you cannot protect every idiot from every hazard - and once you start trying - its a slipery slope - where do you stop ???

heck even gaping ghyll main shaft has minimal protection - its only partially fenced to stop people descending the flabks of the shakehole - wehere it " appears " safe - but one slip out be fatal

and bottom line - i know of no incidents of people ` roaming ` and falling into a dales pot - at least in recent years
