Salt? The Great Orme? Copper?
Mike should know the answer as it's his hand

Anyway .....

The mauve colour is likely to be manganese so I reckon Mike has that

It's Clogau Gold Mine (10 points Stones)

I was looking for "Dolgellau Gold Belt" (10 Point Stones)

It's a Gold Mine (5 Points Stones)

... He said all that first :whistle:

Mike can have 5 points since I do think it's his hand (even though I never asked)

It isn't manganese (I worded the question very carefully because I expected our resident expert may have a different opinion) ... it is apparently caused by small cuboids of cobalt specific to that area of the belt (no sense challenging me, you need to challenge the University of Aberystwyth)

Next Question;

1) What was mined in this mine? (10 points)
2) What is the area known as? (1o points if very specific, 5 points for locale)
3) What year were the pictures taken? (no looking on the knowledge bank!) One guess each for 10 points

Not going to challenge you, the professor is bound to be right (assuming they have sampled and looked at it under a scanning electron microscope or put it in a mass spectrometer...) Minerals have many different forms and colours depending on a lot of factors, which is why I seldom say something is, and instead use the word probably...

So, it's along the Llŷn Peninsula and principally near Porth Ysgo
Down that way it is likely to be Manganese
It is pobably the Nant-Gadwen Manganese Mine
no idea what year though...

Les,

You need to imbue some chemicals to calm your brain down - you are spot on (Nant Manganese Mine on the Llyn)

So, points;

5 points - Steve K for getting the Llyn first
10 Points - Les W for getting the specific name
10 Points - Les W for identifying Manganese

I'm having 5 points for the year because there is no point leaving the question open for a "guess" (it was 2013) and I obviously knew the answer.
